The summer of 2009 attracted some of the best ripening conditions and one of South Africa’s favourite rock bands.
For most passionate winemakers, every year is better than the last. The only difference this year is that it is true! Better colour and flavour developed in our grapes due to a long cold winter & cooler summer. The average temperature for January was 1.48 degrees below the long term average. Sadly we will have to wait another 12 months before we enjoy the benefits of this wonderful season!
This summer was also the first year we received grapes from a cooler climate – maritime vineyards in the Hemel & Aarde Valley close to Hermanus. Hold your breath to see how these exciting grapes earn their way into the Bosman portfolio.
SA’s favourite rock band, the Parlotones, paid us a visit last week whilst filming their latest wine video clip soon to be seen in selected stores and on the net. Parlotones decided that Bosman Family Vineyards was the perfect setting for their Wine Video Clip featuring their blend of Pinotage, Cabernet and Shiraz. They will call it a ‘Giant Mistake’ after a song in their album, ‘A World Next Door To Yours’. Contrary to some media reports, the wine was not made on the estate; it was simply selected as the location for their video.

Thank you for all the good wishes with regard to the Adama 2007 which received a review as the “Best New World Red” in the Decanter February issue, by Steven Spurrier. We were overwhelmed by all the messages, mails and orders.

Harvest Festival

The harvest of 2009 was celebrated by every Wellington Wine Farm participating in the annual Wellington Harvest Festival. We at Bosman Family Vineyards dropped down a gear to host “The Long Lunch” in a typical lazy, Sunday jazzy-style on the picturesque grounds in front of the cellar. It was well celebrated, with more than double the amount of guests than the previous year.
Visitors enjoyed winemaker cellar tours & tastings, wholesome country food catered by Marc’s Restaurant & the Deli, while kids explored the estate grounds on the back of Amado ponies ( www.amado.co.za ).
In March 2010, we will see you again in celebration of wine, friendship, harvest and summer country life!

We are still waiting in anticipation for the release of the Bosman Pinotage 2008 towards the second half of the year. For those of you who want to make sure you will get a taste of this beautiful wine, I have created a reservation list, just to be fair, in case we run out! Cape Town Good Food and Wine Show coming up...

Bosman wines can be sampled, tasted and bought from this year’s annual finest food and beverage exhibition in Cape Town. It promises to bring gourmets, gourmands and good-life devotees to their knees this year, with a sensational line-up of the finest international celebrity and BBC chefs, joined by our finest South African Chefs, and a host of unique specialty shows within the greater Show.
Pop in and say hello - we will be at the stand, left of the entrance.

You may call it autumn, but we know this as red wine season! For a lot of us here, the turning leaves signal more than just the fact that winter is on its way.
It means that it is time to grab those special bottles from the wine rack....so pull out your bulky sweaters and beefy red wines – it’s that time of year again!
